I have always been interested in the “hero journeys” behind every patient and the family members of a patient.
I wanted to create a place where I could present all these stories to help inspire a new patient who may feel scared and confused.
I also want to help support family members who may feel exhausted and frustrated, and want to connect with others who understand first-hand what they are feeling.
I believe a critical component of completing a patient’s “hero journey” is to bring that story to others and share it, and in the process, give back to the community.
This is why I created a new website called A Patient’s Perspective. A Patient’s Perspective (www.apatientsperspective.com) is a user-contributed group blog that gives the individual patient a voice.
When you share how you felt or feel as a patient and describe what you’re going through, you are giving a personal voice to an illness and putting a human face behind a “condition in a medical textbook.”
You also become a voice for others and help others in a similar situation take comfort in your voice and personal advocacy.
I look forward to hearing from patients all over the world - and from YOU!
